Grading Scale

All regular students at Nightingale School are evaluated based on an identical grading scale.
 
A = 93%-100%
 
B = 85%-92%
 
C = 77%-84%
 
D = 70%-76%
 
F= 69% and below
 
Parents should see this scale posted somewhere in the students' classroom.
Jewelry

- There is no need for students to wear jewelry to school. If students have any expensive jewelry or jewelry with sentimental value they should not wear it to school. The school cannot assume liability for jewelry that is lost, damaged or stolen.

- Boys may not wear earrings since this is a gang symbol in this community. Students may not display any form of body piercing or tattoos.
Nightingale Attendance Policy


- Not more than 20 unexcused absences, including absences caused by out-of-school suspensions.

- Parents/guardians are required to call the office (773-535-9270) and report a child's absence; for an absence to be considered an excused absence.

- A note, written by the parent, must be presented to the teacher on the child's return to school. Excessive tardiness will also count against a students' attendance.
Promotion Policy For Chicago Public Schools Solely Based On The ITBS
The promotion policy set specific standards for students in grades 3,6 and 8. In order to be promoted, students must demonstrate mastery of these standards through classroom performance and tests of achievement.

Decisions to promote or retain elementary school students should be based on successful completion of curriculum, on attendance, and or performance on the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills (ITBS). Students in benchmark grades 3,6 and 8 are subject to the following considerations:

Minimum percentile scores in Reading and Mathematics on the ITBS
 
Grade 3: 35th Percentile or above
 
Grade 6: 35th Percentile or above

Grade 8: 35th Percentile or above


Performance at these criteria conclusively demonstrates sufficient mastery for promotion to the next grade level
Promotion Policy For Chicago Public Schools Based On The ITBS And Additional Factors


In addition, the following ranges are acceptable, the attainment of which, in conjunction with other factors, will result in promotion of students at the benchmark grades:


Grade 3: 24th to 34th Percentile
 
Grade 6: 24th to 34th Percentile
 
Grade 8: 24th to 34th Percentile                          

 
 Additional Factors That Must Be Present 

-Classroom grades of "B" or above in reading and mathematics.
-Passing Scores on Reading and Mathematics unit tests.
-An attendance rate of 90% or better.
-Conduct ( no repeated serious discipline code violations: Groups 3, 4, 5, or 6)
-Consistent completion of homework assignments.

In addition to the current ITBS score, other measures which may be used to demonstrate competencies in math and reading are:

 - Evaluation of the student's score on the ISAT or on any other  State-sanctioned assessment which demonstrates competency in  reading and mathematics at the appropriate grade level.
- Evaluation of the student's prior-year score on the ITBS.

 
 
Nightingale Dress Code

Jewelry/ Joyeria:
One ring per hand maximum.
One necklace only. May only be worn inside uniform shirt.

Boys-none
Muchacho- ninguna
Girls- one pair of small earrings worn in earlobe only.  No other piercings are to be worn in school.
Muchachas-solamente un par de aretes es eceptable en cada oido. No se permiten otras perforaciones.

Shirts/Camisas:
White shirt with a collar, no printing. No underclothes should be seen through the top. All undergarments are to be tucked into the pants or shirts.
Blancas con cuello y sin letras o palabras. No se permite que la ropa interior se traslusca por la camisa. Las camisetas interiores deben de estar dentro del pantalon.

Pants/Pantalones:
Navy blue worn at the hip, no rubber bands. The length should notcover the heel of the shoe.
Los pantalones deben de ser color azul marino, puestos a la cintura-no mas bajo de la cadera. No se permiten las ligas en los pantalones y los pantalones no deben de estar tan largos que pasan el talon de los zapatos.

Shoes/Zapatos:
Must be black. No flip-flops.
Deben de ser negros los zapatos. No se permiten chanclas.

Shorts/Shorts:
Modest navy blue shorts when temperature is 85 degrees or higher.
Shorts modestos del color azul marino se pueden usar los dias en que la temperatura se espera llegar a 85 grados o mas.

Sweaters/Sueteres:
Navy blue sweaters, only during cold weather.-NO HOODIES.
Se permite usar sueteres del color azul marino durante el tiempo fresco o frio- NO SE PERMITEN LAS SUDADERAS CON GORRA.
