Education Program "When I came to Nightingale at the
age of 5, I only spoke Spanish. Now that I've learned English I'm a better

The State Bilingual
Education Program for English Language Learners (ELLs): Students
complete the curriculum in their native language in grades K-2.
The third year transitions all subjects to English. Students also complete
the English as a Second Language (ESL) Curriculum. Nightingale Elementary
School is committed to developing English language skills and expects our
bilingual students to transition to the general program within three years
with extensions not to exceed two additional years. Nightingale’s bilingual students’ needs vary greatly. We have students who have been in this country since birth as well as students who arrived from Mexico only days before their arrival in our school. The bilingual and ESL teachers work daily to meet the changing and challenging needs of all our student. |

El programa
de educación bilingüe para estudiantes de ingles: los
estudiantes desarrollan un currículo en español y al mismo
tiempo estudian ingles como segundo idioma. Nuestra escuela primaria
Nightingale esta encargada a desarrollar las habilidades del idioma ingles.
También tenemos la esperanza que nuestros estudiantes bilingües
hagan una transición al programa regular dentro de tres años
con una extensión de servicios bilingües de no más de
dos años. Las necesidades de nuestros estudiantes bilingües son diversas. Tenemos estudiantes que son nacidos en este país y estudiantes que han llegado de México unos días antes de matricularse en la escuela. Las maestras bilingües y maestras de ingles como segundo idioma trabajan diariamente para satisfacer las necesidades diversas de todos los estudiantes. |

Program |
The Bilingual
Advisory Committee involves parents of English Language Learners enrolled
in the Transitional Bilingual Education program. The Committee advises
the principal about the needs of ELLs. The Bilingual
Advisory Committee usually meets on the third Thursday of each month. |

El propósito
del comité bilingüe es que los padres participen en las actividades
escolares para así poder saber y asesorar a la directora y el
Cncilio Escolar Local acerca de las necesidades de nuestros hijos en
el programa bilingüe. El comité bilingüe tiene
reuniones mensuales, usualmente el tercer jueves del mes. |
