Nightingale School
Parents
Parents at the Nightingale School can find their niche in any of three organizations:  the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) , the Local School Counsel (LSC) or the Bilingual Advisory Counsel (BAC).  Parents are always welcome in the school as volunteers, observers or visitors, and on any given day, you will find many of them there in any of these capacities.

Instrucciones para entrar a la pagina MySpace:

The Bilingual Advisory Committee (BAC) must be formed at every Chicago Public School that has a State Bilingual Program.  The purpose of this group is to assist the administrators and the teachers in implementing the bilingual program at their school.

The BAC at Nightingale serves a dual purpose.  The Committee serves as a welcoming committee for parents new to our school, particularly those who have children enrolled in the bilingual program, or those who speak Spanish.  In this role, the committee explains the bilingual and other school programs to parents, works with the teachers and administrators to develop a yearly budget for state bilingual funds and generally assists with  cultural  initiatives at the school.  The Bilingual Advisory Committee also has a uniform sale each year to help parents and students select clothing which complies with  the school dress code.

The BAC also works in conjunction with the Parent  Teacher Association to provide fund raising activities for the benefit of the students.
Myspace directions:
1.Go to www.myspace.com.There will be a main page.  There is a long white bar near the top of the page.  Under the white bar is a menu starting with:  Home - Browse - Search - Invite - etc.
2.Click on the Search button.  Then it will let you choose Find a Friend.  The fastest way to search for your child is to put in their email address and then hit Find.
3.You will get results for your search.  Here it will give you basic information like age, name, city, reason they are here, etc.  If this is who you are looking for, click on that picture.
4.This is their myspace page, which may show pictures of them and their friends, interests, music, they like, videos, comments from other friends, etc.  This is where a lot of foolish kids include personal information that bad people can piece together to do bad things.
5.If the search by email doesn't work, you can check by name too.  This is a bit more difficult because not all students use their real names or you may get lots of people with that same name.
IMPORTANT: If a student is under a certain age, the profile will be automatically set to private, which means only their friends can view their profile.  This means the average person looking for them cannot see everything on their page.  This is why it is very important that they don't lie about their age.
The Local School Council (LSC) is the governing body of the school.  It consists of six parents, two teachers, two community members and the Principal.  Each LSC member serves for a two year period, and is elected by his/her peers.  The Nightingale LSC for

The Parent-Teacher Association  at the Nightingale School is very active in fundraising activities.  In addition to its membership drive, the PTA uses the following activities to raise funds :

- Candy Sale ( September)

- Taffy Apple Sale (October)

- Valentine Lollipop Sale (February)

- Campbell Soup Labels

- Fun Fair

The PTA has used these funds to  purchase needs as well as "wish list" items for the school;  most notably the auditorium curtains, the graduation reception  and classroom libraries. In addition, the PTA and the Bilingual Advisory Committee co-host the Mother's Day Dinner, the Volunteer Breakfast, the Teacher Appreciation Day.
